The papal tiara is a symbol of authority, since it is worn by the Pope only on special occasions and marks the line of succession from St. Peter to the present pontiff.
The Second symbol:
St. Peter is always represented bearing the keys in reference to the words of Our Lord – “Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build My church, and I will give to thee the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven”. The cross that is shown upside down is a reminder of the way St. Peter was crucified.

The Rock of Peter depicts a rock with waves lashing around it, symbolizing the powers of evil unable to prevail.
The Fourth symbol:
The Bark of Peter represents the first of the Apostles as the “fisher of men”.
The Fifth symbol:
The fish and the anchor symbolize the Holy Eucharist as a sign of hope.
The Sixth symbol:
The cock reminds us of the words of our blessed Lord to St. Peter – “Before the cock crows twice thou shalt deny Me thrice.”
